The exams of the ÖSD are

• internationally recognised and sought after as proof of German language skills (e.g. on the job market, at universities and other educational institutions, for official procedures like naturalization, visas, residence permit etc.)
• orient themselves on the Common European Framework of Reference are aligned to the CEFR and to Profile Deutsch.
• communicatively-orientated and check the ability to act in the language with real situations of use in mind.
• independent from courses.
• pluricentric, i.e. the standard varieties of the German-speaking countries Germany, Austria and Switzerland are taken into account.
• only held in examination centres with an ÖSD licence by trained ÖSD examiners that follow standardised rules.
